Dry Needling Therapy is a very successul form of muscle release, that uses Acupuncture needles to treat pain and dysfunction caused by muscle and neural problems.
Dry Needling is a NON-MEDICATION based treatment, that works by changing the way your body senses pain and by helping the body heal by treating "trigger points".
Dry Needling Therapy uses a variety of Acupuncture needles. The physician will palpate around an area of pain for the patient to locate a trigger point. A trigger point is a taut band in a muscle that may develop with acute or chronic pain.
A very fine needle is inserted into the trigger point to force the muscle to spasm and then relax. This in turn sends messages to the brain that the area is no longer a concern for pain, and leads to a decrease in tension, allowing the muscle to return to its normal function
The needles are usually left in for 5-7minutes.
In general, Dry Needling Therapy is a safe and effective technique if performed properly by an appropriately trained professional.
Some areas of the body pose a greater risk than others, and this is discussed with the patient before any treatment is administered.
Dry Needling Therapy is used to treat a variety of conditions such as:
Neck pain and tension headaches
Lower back pain
Gluteal or hip bursitis
Loss of joint range of motion
Muscle Strain and tightness
Precautions are taken with certain accompanying medical conditions and are discussed with the patient on an individual basis.
At Body Science EP, the cost of Dry Needling Therapy is included in a standard consult. Therefore, there is no extra cost!
